This image shows a sattelite picture of the globe seen from a vantage point over South America. Notice how the weather systems organize the cl ouds into elongated curves. At the very bottom, the white Antarctic continent can be recognized below the clouds. Around Antarctica is a region of very intense winds ("the roaring forties") and an in the ocean the strongest ocean current on Earth, the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC) fl ows around the continent. Between the South American continent and Antarctica is Drake Passage, which connects the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean.
